yea i know kanji is originally from chines, but japanese ppl using the kanjis for everything, didnt they? eventhough they didnt wrote all by kanji..

miichan, Kanji is like... Modified Chinese for Japanese people.
Kanji came from the original Chinese language, and Japan kinda changed it a little.
Most mean the same thing in both languages, but aren't pronounced the same.
Like... Sky in Chinese is 'kong' and in Japanese it's 'sora', but they're both spelled with the same exact character [空] and mean the same thing.
But, I don't think it's true for everything... I'm not a Japanese or Chinese expert. xP
And, Japan added 2 other writing systems, hiragana and katakana.
Hiragana is like... Used in words Japan made that didn't come from Kanji. And to change adjectives... and I think a few other things. xP
Katakana is used for foreign words, like hiiroo comes from the English word 'hero'

Woah, I had no idea I knew so much about this stuff. O_____o
Oh god, I bet half of what I said was wrong. Dx Correct me if I'm wrong people. xD

Kanji is Chinese characters-- the way it's written.
But usually, Kanji has other Kanji or Hiragana paired with it, and has a different meaning than the Chinese word.
Also, kanji has A LOT of different sounds, like each one kanji has like 5 different prounceiations, depending on the kaji or hiragana paired with it.
hiragana is like an alphabet, and the same situation with katakana.
If Chinese characters and Kanji is prounced the same and mean the same, I would have very little to learn Japanese. (i am Chinese. i speak mandarin. i also have no life at all, so i know all this stuff. scratch

)

Yeah, I know that each kanji has like a million different sounds. xP
Depending on the On-readings and Kun-readings
And that katakana and hiragana are like alphabets.
I just didn't think of it at the moment when I wrote that. xD

its seems difficult to learn.. Sad

i dont know how many kanji, n one kanji has about 5 different pronounciations like rui said..

i learn japanese only with hiragana n katakana characters, its why i dont know much bout kanji..

i remember when i was still studying japanese i have to remember 100 Kanji to pass the international exam (Nihongo Noryoku Shiken) and i was so stressed so i studied hard on it and amazingly i made 95 out of 100 XD i was like ZOMG

but now... since i rarely write n read kanji, i think i can only remember 15-20 basic kanji XD

The sad thing is, I know all that information, yet I haven't memorized a single kanji. xD
I know what a few of them mean, but that's about it. xD
And, at one point, I knew all hiragana, but it's slowly slipping away from me. x3
I bought 2 workbooks, one on the first 100 kanji, and the other on hiragana.
I should probably use them. xP

orenji-chan, the key to learn foreign language and remembering em is by using them everyday XD cuz when u stop using em u will gradually forgetting em (like me lol)

ruru-chan, actually i think kanji is fun cuz its like drawing XD but it stresses me too cuz they are so many similar kanjis and if u make just one stroke mistake it could be another kanji XD

I will try to use them everyday. ^^
I helped my sister make a calendar on Japan for school...
And I had to write ALL the days of the week, months, and numbers in Japanese.
That was a good way to learn calender stuff. I should do that again. xP
I'm gonna write migi and hidari in kanji on my shoes. xD
And put my mp3 player in Japanese again. xD
That way I'll use them everyday. ^^
