# PANIC FANCY & 5th Anniversary #
Time passes by quickly. Since their debut single “Kirikirimai” in 2003, this band from Okinawa has been in the music industry for 5 years. And during the period of time they remain the same – modest and steady. After the release of their best album last year, here they come back with a new spirit.
Do you realize you’re in your 6th year now?
Hiroki : No.. I don’t think I even notice (laughs)
Yamato : It seems like 5 years had passed before our eyes faster than we had expected
YAMATO-san, in the message you wrote, it looks like you always have fun writing puns?
Yamato : I feel like my thinking pattern changes every year. And for that is why 5 years had passed so fast. If it continues like this, I may be an old man with white hair before I even realize. (laughs)
Well.. the fact is your 20-something.
Yamato : No, no. Life does pass quickly! For example, the shape of the television. It used to be a brown box but now a TV with slim body and LCD screen is a common sight. My grandma once said, “Life passes quickly so do your best!”. And I have always marked those words during the past 5 years..
Even though you have been experiencing many things, everything still looks the same?
Yamato : No. Sometimes…there are ups and downs.
All : (laughs)
And to manage the balance, you play golf?
Yamato : Yes yes, right. (laughs)
How about NAOTO-san? During the past 5 years you’ve written many songs have you not?
Naoto : Well.. if you put it that way, I do have (written many songs). But honestly, I never notice. Every time I write a song, I don’t think about my position and condition. It feels like a sudden, without our notice, we’ve released our 5th album.
Does it feel like “I can keep moving forward” ?
Naoto : Yeah. Like that.
Woah, everyone can count on you then…
Naoto : Even if it just the simplest thing in life, it may turn out to be somewhat useful. So yeah.. I think I’m going to be alright.
What about life and personality (during the past 5 years)?
Naoto : Hmm… maybe..this goat-tee. (laughs)
Hiroki : It’s growing fast, it’s getting thicker. XD
As you grow up, is everyone saying that you’re looking more alike to your twin older brothers?
Naoto : It’s the other way around, actually. They (people) always have a tendency to say “Woah, you have two younger twin brothers!”. Though in fact, those two are my 5-years older brothers! So I live my life with the anger (of being said the oldest son of Hiroyama) (laughs)
But despite that fact, you can still produce songs…
Naoto : Ah.. yes. I can still keep up the work (laughs)
HIROKI-san looks like someone who enjoys thinking right…
Hiroki : During the first 2-3 years I could count. Like, I could still remember that Kirikirimai release date was 2 years ago.. But now I’ve lost it (the count)
Yamato : 3 or 4 years ago, we still remain the same. Nothing has changed.
Hiroki : Yeah.. everything seems blur. I don’t remember how old I am now (baka!)
It feels like growing older but you don’t actually know the exact age.
Hiroki : True. Last year, I thought I was 25. But, this year, I’m still 25.
Naoto : I want to be like that too…
Hiroki: What are we talking about…? Oh right..about the past 5 years.. Well yes.. nothing has changed.
It does seem like nothing has changed. Especially Hiroki…
Hiroki : Everyone still remains the same. Excluding Yoh, perhaps. He’s getting more gentle lately.
Yoh : But I think each of us is getting more gentle. But it’s true I’m the most visible one.
Yamato : As for me, I don’t think I’m soft enough. I still can’t touch my toes with my fingers…
We’re not talking about that kind of softness. We’re talking about gentleness not that as in body gentleness..
Naoto : Ryo.. he may be growing more gentle too.
Ryo : (laughs) I see your point. Truth is you wanted to say that I’m growing badass right?
YOH-san, you wrote “Part 2” in your message. Do you really feel that way (6th year onwards will be the second stage/part of ORANGE RANGE’s band life) ?
Yoh : After we released the best album, we were like resetting everything. Honestly, I felt it was too early for a best album. But after we finished the FANTAZICAL tour, I started to feel our responsibility toward the past 4 years was huge.
So, you’re not closing the 5 years part but you were truthfully creating a break with the best album right?
Yoh : Right. It was just a coincidence that we released the best album in our 5th year. I hope we can still be here (in the music industry), walking in our second part of band’s life till maybe… the 10th year.
Last, RYO-san. In the past five years you have lived your life as a college student (what!! i’ve never heard of this..) which must be hard keeping study and work in balance?
Ryo : Yeah it was hard.
Is anything changing now?
Ryo : I have more free time.. But I don’t know. Maybe all this stuff is too early for a man my age.
Don’t you feel excited of what’s awaiting you in your current 6th year?
Hiroki : We learned a lot from the past 5 years and understood many things. Yeah, maybe we have a new ‘weapon’ up on our sleeves now.
Is there anything you want to accomplish? A worldwide tour maybe?
Yoh : If we have the chance, we’ll surely do it. But we must work hard for that.
You guys are in your age of maturity too…
Hiroki : Right. Our songs lyrics may have been silly but it’s actually a meaningful silliness! (laughs)
Naoto : Mature stupidity! (laughs)
Hiroki : We’ll work harder!!

ryo was studying in college yeah.. that's surprising =\
# SELF LINER NOTES #
1. Beat it
Naoto : A year ago I wanted to write this song but I never got enough motivation to do so. Till finally it was there. This is a silly song. But thanks to it I was able to work out the whole album.
Hiroki : It’s very danceable.
2. Ikenai Taiyou
Hiroki : This is actually an old song. (ha! so that's why Ikenai Taiyou is sounding very good!! it was one of their old works after all!) It was first made during our early period as a band. But we edited this song here and there. We changed RYO’s lyrics too.
Ryo : The melody Yamato made didn’t fit my part.
Yoh : It’s an upbeat song, very catchy.
3. Sekai WORLD Uchinanchu Kikou ~SHIMI hen~
Naoto : It’s the B-side of O2 single. It was made in the same atmosphere as when we made Beat it. I arranged the chorus and to make it catchy I added some synthesizer touch.
Yamato : The word “shimi” in the title comes from the local language of Okinawa. There, graves are usually coupled with small garden. And when spring comes, family relatives would come to clean the grave and do picnic there. And that is Shimi.
4. Kimi Station
Hiroki : This song was specially made for the LOST:TIME:LIFE drama. The theme is, “What would you do when you lose your time?”
Naoto : This is the first song we recorded for the album.
5. Soy Sauce VS Petunia Rocks feat. ORANGE RANGE
Ryo : This song was born from the burning spirit of Naoto and Hiroki
Hiroki : And Yamato made the lyrics and the melody. Ryo’s part totally has no connection with the song, it’s like popping out of nowhere
Ryo : When I first saw they lyrics I laughed my ass off
6. Sunny Stripe
Naoto : Yoh made this song with the theme of “Let’s have fun in the stadium” and I arranged this song
Hiroki : We had played (baseball) in the stadium of Fukuoka with the staff
Yamato : Isn’t it great. We reserved the whole stadium only for us to play. *o__O I was in one team with Yoh and the other three were in the opposite team
Hiroki : But the lyrics wasn’t been written based on that experience. We had the match after we finished recording the song. The song itself was created based on the image of baseball match we often saw on TV.
7. Genjitsu Touhi
Naoto : The melody is nice and so-so, but I played with the sound to create a different atmosphere. Like when I coupled the sound of guitar and violin.
8. Shiawase Neiro
Naoto : It was made when we had just started making Kimi Station. So the theme is alike. I added horn section in the intro part to give a feeling of tenderness.
Hiroki : Everyone has different shape of happiness. And this song is persuading everyone to feel that fact and continue living. The title Ryo made tells it all.
9. 5
Naoto : Just as the title suggests, 5 persons worked out 5 songs which had to be blended as one in the end. Because those 5 songs are different, it must be nice to mix them altogether.
Hiroki : We wrote the lyrics personally too.
10. O2
Naoto : While listening to the anime producer, I pictured the atmosphere of this song. And in the end I made four different patterns of this song.
Hiroki : All of them have different lyrics right…
Naoto : But the producer wanted the song to be more “anime” so I had to correct it several times. It was difficult, but I learned a lot.
11. Ika SUMMER
Hiroki : Even though this is a more-than-a-year-ago single but it could blend together with other songs in the album. It’s very weird. This song is a single but doesn’t sound like one.
12. Taiyou to Himawari…
Naoto : Hiroki made this song and Yoh gave the last touch. I just added small parts in the end of the process.
Hiroki : Even though you said so but I only made the melody part. Yoh was the one who made it full.
13. Fuyumi
Naoto : The beginning part is enka (please refer to wikipedia for more info) with this traditional feeling. There were lots of new challenges we encountered in this song. This song has more positive reviews from people older than 30 (laughs)
14. DO RE MI FA Ship
Naoto : Another song Yoh made.
Hiroki : We really liked this song and supported Yoh (to finish it). But it turned out he lost his spirit and refused to finish it.
Yoh : I felt difficulties in harmonizing the low bass keys to the Japanese lyrics of this song. So, with Naoto’s approval I raised the keys and changed the chorus to English lyrics.
15. Happy Birthday Yeah! Yeah! Wow! Wow!
Naoto : With the sound of horn section played by 20 persons, the arrangement sounds gorgeous. All because those musicians had done a great job. I really thank them.
Hiroki : Since the beginning I had felt this song would fit the celebration theme. Well actually we don't make songs based on certain season.
Yamato : Like Christmas day or Valentine.
Hiroki : But to do it once in while won't hurt right...
ryo was studying in college yeah.. that's surprising =\

Wow. Ryo HAS been busy these last few years. Orange Range-ing all over Japan, and studying for college, and becoming an uncle, and getting married and becoming a chichi. Jeez. I know a certain low-vox is due for some serious vacation time. Like whoa!

Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
*sigh* I can't help it. Being in the North America, I'm sure the only way I'll ever see OR live is if I study for a semester in Japan. But I'm still happy for all our OR fans who are beginning to taste OR in their home countries. And you never know, maybe OR will experience a new wave of success as they broaden their fanbase by branching out of Japan. That's good for fans EVERYWHERE.
Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
oh, i'm sorry DraedFox... didn't mean to make anyone jealous, really... ^^
but i was quite upset when i couldn't find the magz near my place...

Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
No no. I'm very happy for you. You're one step closer to OR!! I think it's great! But I also wish the band would venture into the western hemisphere once in awhile.
Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
oh, yeah... i hope they can be like Larc-en-ciel! so that Americans and other westerns can see them live....
Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
At my place, da major part of Japanese/Korean music that hv been da focus of media is ......how 2 put in words.....mmmm...boybands. U know, da dancing ones. Kattun, Tohoshinki....bla bla bla.. n all that r regular faces in mags here.

Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
^it was like that too, during my early days of OR-fandom. Boybands seemed to rule this place. ;_; and fangirls would squeal at their smiles and stuff not at their skills in making music. i mean srsly.. also, fans here often talk big. but they never do anything real to support their so-called "beloved" artists. aaah.. sorry.. i didn't mean to rant. but face it girls, you dont love someone by saying "i love you" but to stand up and do some real act. it's the same..as being a musically obssessed fan.
shinrei, the magazine is so cheap and apparently you can find it in bookstores everywhere. ^^ it's worth buying cos there's a bonus poster too.
Hahaha.. Yeah. Like "HOAA!?" xD Surprised!DreadFox wrote:Like whoa!

Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
Most of boybands never wrote or produced their own songs.......They only contribute their voices 2 da songs. I think that's da reason y their fans craze 4 their smiles or girlish faces [oppss...] instead of their skills or music.

Re: J-STAR vol.07 September 2008
I have NEVER been into the boyband scenes, in any language. Not Backstreet Boys in America, or the CRAZY boyband craze in Japan. I love OR because their music is unique and their vocals have such an addictive contrast that you don't seen in many other bands. They're entertaining live and they're willing to try new things and experiment with new styles. Because you have to admit, none of our boys are really "pretty/handsome" in the way that most famous musicians are.
Which means their fanbase is truly that of music lover and not infatuated fangirls.
